And Now It's Time For Haiku

internal seasons

my autumn leaves are falling

i’m ready for change

living in the now

making the most of my time

try not to be late

many years gone by

seems like only yesterday

a long time ago

no grey in my hair

even though i’m an old man

i’m fooling no-one

got no time to waste

my life moves on at a pace

wrinkles tell the tale

we never grow up

emotions keep us in child

toys thrown out the cot

this concept called time

it sneaks up in a minute

as your life ticks by

Love the haikus, love the pics, Russ. I especially love the theme. Time is of the essence. I have to write some haikus, as you've awaken in me the old (or younger?) haiku writer in me! Thank you.

Wonderful images Russ...When I think of time, as a tangible object, I am reminded of a line from Heller's " Catch-22 " where one of the characters states he wants to live as long as he can, and his way of achieving that longevity is by doing the most boring activities he can find...his premise: boring is time consuming at a very slow pace...like when I get on the treadmill in the morning..Time drags on forever trying for the 45 minute mark...So perhaps that is the secret; listen to the blowhards, read long-winded comments like mine, or just empty your mind of everything and float on a cushion of ennui...Or maybe, like Jim Croce, keep time in a bottle, and savor it now and then like a fine wine...

Thank you for this wonderful and sensitive haiku, which I always enjoy reading aloud...Larry

Hi Tony, thanks! I know your haiku will be great. Start with one. It doesn't have to take time. Go well. Russ

My thank you first goes to dohn121 who made a link to this hub. Beautiful haiku poems you've got here, Russ, and perfect images to go with them. In our fast-paced world Haiku stands out as both short and sweet and yet not in a hurry. The economy of thought is not curt but profound -- and those 3 lines pack a huge amount of insight. I would love to write a memorable haiku poem someday, too. Thanks for inspiring us, Russ!

Hi Carmen, and thank you! I really appreciate your comments. One tip I got from Larry (Maven101), is to write a haiku every morning. This helps to get into the habit and let a haiku emerge rather than trying to formulate it. Every now and again an instinctive haiku jumps out and the reward is fantastic. Please try it. Russ

Big thanks, Russ! That's a great tip indeed. Will try doing that both in English and in our native tongue.
